Description: This project focuses on the conservation of green and hawksbill turtles on Abaiang Island, Kiribati through community-led monitoring and data collection. Key activities include mapping and documenting nesting beaches, monitoring nesting activity and hatchling survival, tagging adult turtles to assess movement patterns, and engaging local communities through awareness and capacity-building workshops. The project addresses critical data gaps in an under-represented area of the central Pacific and supports evidence-based management, national reporting, and regional sea turtle conservation initiatives, including contribution to the State of the World’s Sea Turtles (SWOT) database.
