Description: Yayasan Aksi Konservasi Yogyakarta (YAKY) operates on three core pillars: Ecology, Education, and Economy. Our mission centers on sea turtle preservation and ecosystem restoration, primarily through relocating eggs to semi-natural hatcheries to mitigate poaching. We uphold rigorous scientific standards by monitoring nesting data and hatching success rates, while implementing innovative, cost-effective microclimate monitoring through affordable data loggers. A key current initiative is our Nest Adoption Program, which is specifically designed to phase out the practice of "headstarting" (long-term captive rearing) in favor of immediate natural release, ensuring better survival instincts for the hatchlings. This program simultaneously provides direct economic incentives to local community members as a reward for their vital role in nest maintenance and protection. By engaging hundreds of volunteers annually for nocturnal patrols, fostering a circular economy through waste recycling, and bridging partnerships between academia, the private sector, and the government, YAKY creates a sustainable, community-led conservation model.
