Description: Gulf Specimen Marine Lab's Sea Turtle Rescue, Rehab, and Release Facility is dedicated to the conservation and rehabilitation of sea turtles, providing expert care to injured or ill turtles with the ultimate goal of releasing them back into the wild. Located on Florida's Gulf Coast, the facility has been at the forefront of sea turtle care and rehabilitation for over 50 years, offering a safe haven for sea turtles in need. A particular focus of the facility's efforts is the Kemp’s ridley sea turtle, one of the most endangered species of sea turtles. The Gulf Specimen Marine Lab is a key player in the conservation of this species, treating Kemp's ridleys that are found stranded or injured in the Gulf of Mexico. From providing critical medical care to creating custom rehabilitation protocols, the lab’s expert team works tirelessly to nurse these turtles back to health, ensuring they have the best chance of survival upon their release back into their natural environment. In addition to the Kemp’s ridley, the facility rehabilitates several other sea turtle species, including the green sea turtle and the loggerhead sea turtle. Each species requires specific care, from treatment of shell injuries and infections to rehabilitation for entanglements or cold-stunning, a common issue in colder months. The facility's experienced team provides state-of-the-art medical treatment, physical therapy, and environmental enrichment to help each turtle recover. The Gulf Specimen Marine Lab is not only committed to the rescue and rehabilitation of sea turtles, but also to educating the public about these incredible creatures and the challenges they face. Through outreach programs, educational displays, and involvement in broader conservation efforts, the lab plays a critical role in raising awareness about the importance of sea turtle conservation and the preservation of marine ecosystems. With decades of experience in sea turtle rehabilitation, Gulf Specimen Marine Lab continues to be a leader in the care of these ancient mariners, helping to secure a future for Kemp’s ridleys, greens, loggerheads, and all marine turtles in the Gulf of Mexico.
