Description: Somali Society for Marine Conservation is a science and education based non-governmental organization and non-profit public society governed by board of members based in Mogadishu city, Somalia. The organization was founded by a group of ocean enthusiasts specialized in the different aspects of marine sciences. However, it is apparent that there is a dire and urgent need in the advocacy for the marine environment in the Somali region. The main reasons behind the establishment of this organization includes but not limited to; uplifting public awareness regarding the status of our oceans, protecting and conserving threatened marine organisms, finding holistic approaches to solving problems associated with oceans.
Species of focus: Hawksbills (Eretmochelys imbricata), Green turtles (Chelonia mydas), Leatherbacks (Dermochelys coriacea), Loggerheads (Caretta caretta), Olive ridleys (Lepidochelys olivacea)
