Organization / Project Name: Genetic variation of chelonid alphaherpesvirus 5 (ChHV5) in sea turtles from Mexico
Website: https://www.ib.unam.mx/
Email: elli.labastida@gmail.com
Description: Our project focuses on evaluating the genetic variation of chelonid alphaherpesvirus 5 (ChHV5) in adults and juveniles from all six species of sea turtles found on the Mexican coasts. We utilized gene fragments of ChHV5 to determine the genetic differentiation of the virus between species or geographical regions. Our results can provide information that aids in understanding the dynamics of the disease, as well as the differential incidence and severity between species or populations
Species of focus: Loggerheads (Caretta caretta), Kemp’s ridleys (Lepidochelys kempii), Olive ridleys (Lepidochelys olivacea), Hawksbills (Eretmochelys imbricata), Green turtles (Chelonia mydas), Leatherbacks (Dermochelys coriacea)
