Description: Diani Turtle Watch (hereafter referred to as DTW) is a program of Local Ocean Conservation. Launched in 2012, DTW is focused on protecting sea turtles found within the Diani-Chale Marine National Reserve. The projects undertaken by DTW include sea turtle nest monitoring, response to sea turtle mortality, strandings, fishing net entanglement, and education and awareness. The area of operation extends from the estuary north of Diani Beach at Kongo River down to Chale Island and Funzi Island. This is approximately 30 kilometers. Diani Turtle Watch is based out of the Marine Education Center at the Sands at Nomad Boutique Hotel.
Species of focus: Olive ridleys (Lepidochelys olivacea), Hawksbills (Eretmochelys imbricata), Green turtles (Chelonia mydas)
