Description: The Raine Island Recovery Project is a collaboration between the Queensland Government and Australian Government and the Wuthathi People and Meriam Nation (Ugar, Mer, Erub) People to re-establish and maintain Raine Island as a viable island for nesting turtles. Raine Island is one of the largest green turtle rookeries in the world, with up to 20,000 turtles recorded nightly ashore. Low hatchling numbers has been reported for decades raising concerns about the islands' viability as a nesting habitat.
