Description: Since 2005, WWF has been working with the Fisheries Committee in French Guiana to test innovative fishing techniques that have less impact on non-target species (such as sea turtles): - PALICA (Pêcheries Actives pour la Limitation des Interactions et des Captures Accidentelles) : modification of fishing gear to reduce bycatch, while maintaining economic yields, and promotion of seafood products from eco-responsible fishing ; - ARRIBA (Alerte au Risque Relatif aux Interactions Bloquant les Arribadas) : development, in collaboration with fishermen, of a voluntary no-fishing zone next to the main olive ridley turtle nesting site ; - TTED (Trash & Turtle excluder device): device that allows large marine vertebrates caught in trawls to escape through an exit hatch, thus making shrimp fishing selective.
