Description: Founded in 2000, Turtle Foundation now consists of seven national organisations, all of which are non-profit and tax-exempt under the laws of their respective countries: TF Germany, TF Switzerland, TF USA, TF Cabo Verde (local name: Fundação Tartaruga), TF Liechtenstein, TF Indonesia (local name: Yayasan Penyu Indonesia) and TF UK. Additionally, in Germany the support association "Turtle Foundation Friends" is registered as a non-profit organisation. In its conservation projects in Indonesia and Cabo Verde, Turtle Foundation is fighting against the imminent extinction of sea turtles on the premise that sustainability can only be achieved in close and trusting cooperation with the local population. In Indonesia, projects are located in Berau (East Kalimantan; target species: green turtles), Sipora and Selaut Besar (West Sumatra; target species: leatherbacks, green turtles), and Banggai (target species: hawksbills). National campaigns are targeting the turtleshell trade.
