Description: Since 2008, two of the most important leatherback nesting beaches in the Andaman group of islands – namely, West Bay and South Bay beaches on Little Andaman Island – have been monitored annually, roughly between November and March. The objectives of the project are to better understand the nesting ecology of leatherback turtles through beach monitoring and tagging. We have also tracked the movement of 10 turtles through satellite telemetry and conduct periodic surveys at important nesting sites across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. We use the insights gained from this project to increase awareness and capacities of stakeholder groups to protect and conserve leatherback turtles and their habitats.
