Description: We are a Non-Profit (OBC -Organización con Base Comunitaria = Community Based Organization) registered in the Regional Offices of MIAMBIENTE in Las Tablas as “Tortugas Playa Venao” AKA Save The Turtles Playa Venao dedicated to helping revitalization, increasing the survival rate and conservation of marine turtles - mostly Olive Ridleys (Lepidochelys olivacea). Relocation of nests to the protected nursery; scientific observation, nursery management, and loving care of the nests while in the nursery; ensure optimal conditions for the proper development of newborns, and guarded release of the babies for safe passage to the ocean. Our primary mission is providing protection, conservation, and increasing the survival rate of the sea turtles that nest at Playa Venao. To achieve these goals, we strive to: - reduce the impact of predators and poachers - create incentives for alternate income those that normally eat and sell the eggs - educate the surrounding local communities with engaging and meaningful research we conduct at our project Other aspects of our mission include improving the ways humans connect to nature with programs like: • beach cleanups • recycling • reforestation • public gardens and composting Furthermore, we also have plans to install monkey bridges, launch a near shore coral farm, open a butterfly conservatory, implement an eco-partner program with local businesses and hotels, initiate solar farming, develop a community system for rain water collection & offer remote field trips for students abroad.
