Description: Our project was started by the Vnzlan Environment Ministry (Minec) in the year 2003 to stop sea turtle nests poaching in the Gulf of Paria. Our base fishermen town community is Macuro, the first site were Columbus arrived in 1498 to the mainland American continent. In the first decade we controlled from 88 until 7% the poaching, last season 2022 poaching % was 5. Since season the year 2020 Provita NGO treasured funders: SEE Turtles NGO, Global Conservation, Bancamiga and Marine Conservation Action Fund of the New England Aquarium. We also environmental educate the locals, especially children. Trying to expand studies and protect the neighboring National Park.
Species of focus: Hawksbills (Eretmochelys imbricata), Loggerheads (Caretta caretta), Green turtles (Chelonia mydas), Leatherbacks (Dermochelys coriacea)
