Description: Founded by Dr. Larissa Barreto, the QUEAMAR Project ("Aquatic Turtles of Maranhão" in Portuguese) is linked to the Department of Oceanography and Limnology at Universidade Federal do Maranhão. Since its creation, the organization has joined forces with the scientific community to contribute to the elucidation of biological, ecological and genetic aspects of turtles and marine mammals found in the state of Maranhão, Brazil.
Species of focus: Green turtles (Chelonia mydas), Olive ridleys (Lepidochelys olivacea), Loggerheads (Caretta caretta), Hawksbills (Eretmochelys imbricata), Leatherbacks (Dermochelys coriacea)
